"TXN stock" was the top trending Google search in the US on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The trigger: Texas Instruments, the Dallas chipmaker whose analog semiconductors sit inside everything from cars to factory robots, reported third-quarter results after the closing bell — and beat Wall Street's expectations on both profit and revenue.

The headline numbers

MetricQ3 2026Year agoChange
Revenue$6.06 billion$4.74 billion+28%
Net income$2.43 billion$1.36 billion+78%
Earnings per share$2.62$1.48+77%
Operating profit$2.87 billion$1.66 billion+73%

Analysts had expected about $2.40–2.44 per share on roughly $5.94 billion in revenue, so the results cleared both bars. The stock had already closed the regular session up 2.5% at $284.65, and rose further in after-hours trading following the report.

What drove it

TI's biggest business, Analog chips, grew revenue 32% to $4.91 billion. Embedded Processing rose 21% to about $850 million. CEO Haviv Ilan credited "continued broad growth in industrial, automotive and data center" — the three markets investors watch most. Industrial demand matters most: TI is treated as a bellwether for the whole chip cycle because its catalog of tens of thousands of parts sells into nearly every industry, so a broad-based TI beat reads as a signal about the wider economy, not just one company.

The cash numbers were the other half of the story. Over the trailing 12 months TI generated $9.9 billion in operating cash flow and $8.4 billion in free cash flow, and returned $5.8 billion to shareholders.

The guidance — and the catch

For the fourth quarter, TI guided revenue of $5.80–$6.30 billion and EPS of $2.45–$2.79, ahead of what analysts had penciled in. The debate around the stock is price: TXN is up roughly 60% in 2026 and trades at about 42 times trailing earnings, rich for a cyclical chip name. Bulls say the industrial recovery has room to run and TI's heavy factory-building years are easing into cash returns; bears say the valuation already assumes the recovery goes right.
